Designed by Kai Kristiansen
The chair “Handy” was designed by the danish designer Kai Kristiansen together with Mr. Miyazaki from the Miyazaki Chair Factory. It is a reproduction of the very successful NV31 with improved details. It is amended so that the line of the arm toward the seat back forms into an arch.
The chair provides a comfortable seating experience, standard design, and well made with trusses.

Kai Kristiansen is one of the most innovative and talented Danish designers of the mid 20th century.
Kristiansen was born in 1929 and trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. His mentor was the famed father of modern Danish furniture design Kaare Klint.
Kristiansen excelled as a cabinetmaker and in 1955 set up his own design workshop. His talent was quickly recognised by some of Denmarks finest cabinet makers and the result is some of the most stunning furniture produced during the mid century era.
Kristiansen was a multi faceted designer who was comfortable designing a range of furniture. His work is defined by clean lines and a perfect balance of form and function. He designed some of the most desirable lounge, dining and office furniture of the day in luxurious teak and rosewood.
As an avid supporter of furniture design, Kristiansen also organised many of the large furnitue fairs in Denmark during the 1960s. Today his designs are some of the most highly coveted examples of the mid century furniture to emerge from Denmark.
Due to the highly positive impression made by the Miayzaki Chair Factory’s quality on Kai, the two parts decided to begin a production partnership, that includes products such as N.42, Paper Knife Sofa & Table and Handy, which are exclusively produced by Miyazaki Chair Factory.
This collaboration gave birth to the creation of new products together and the realization of annual workshops in Tokushima, Japan.
During the Salone del Mobile 2014 in Milan, Miyazaki Chair Factory presented a new chair “Handy” designed by Kai Kristiansen. This chair used to be called “NV31” and was produced by a danish manufacturer. At the time of its creation, the chair was a big hit and sold for many years but eventually it was put out of production, despite its success.
The story behind “Handy” begun when Kai had the idea of doing an improved version and re-production of the old “NV31”. The project was taken with great excitement by the Factory and the new chair was developed in collaboration with Mr. Miyazaki.
The new NV31 chair was designed in the factory’s headquarters in Tokushima and despite being a re-production chair, it felt as brand-new and deserved a new name, “Handy”.
